Returned Missionary Scholarships

BYU-Idaho offers a one-time $500 Returned Missionary Scholarship to encourage recently returned missionaries to pursue higher education at BYU-Idaho.

About the Returned Missionary Scholarship

Introduced in Winter 2024, this one-time $500 scholarship is for students who:

• Have returned from full-time missionary service since January 1, 2023
• Are enrolling in their first college experience since their mission

Do you qualify for this scholarship?

• You must be a BYU-Idaho campus student without an earned bachelor's degree
• This must be your first college experience since returning from your mission
• The length of your mission doesn't affect your eligibility
• All missionaries (proselyting, humanitarian or service) may receive this scholarship

How do I apply?

• You don't need to apply! The scholarship is automatically awarded upon enrollment in your first semester after missionary service

How much money could you receive?

• This is a one-time $500 scholarship

How do you keep your scholarship?

• Enroll in at least one credit
  
  • Stay enrolled in at least one credit by Financial Aid Determination Date (FADD)
  • If you drop to zero credits before FADD, you'll have to return the $500 award
  • Audited courses do not qualify.

  Examples of who qualifies:

  • A student who returned from a mission in January 2023 and is starting college for the first time in Fall 2024
  • A student who returned early from their mission for various reasons

  Examples of who doesn't qualify:

  • A student who returned from their mission in February 2023, attended another college, then enrolled at BYU-Idaho for Fall 2024
  • A student who returned from their mission in December 2022

  Can you combine this with other scholarships?

  Yes! The Returned Missionary Scholarship can be combined with all other BYU-Idaho scholarships, even if the total exceeds full LDS tuition.
  

  How can I check my scholarship status?

  • Make sure your missionary service dates are up to date with the Admissions office (email admissions@byui.edu)
  • Check your financial aid portal for the award

  When will I receive my scholarship?

  • The scholarship is disbursed to your student account the first week of the semester
  • It's applied first to tuition charges
  • Be sure to sign up for eRefund so any remaining funds can go directly to your bank account
